In Many of my sessions we make a smoothie, shake or lassi. It is a great way for children to experiment whilst getting some of their 5-a-day! You can change the cranberry juice below for apple, orange, grape or anything they fancy. You can buy some great frozen fruit combinations or use fresh fruit that is even just close to the turn.
½ a litre of Cranberry Juice
Then add the fresh or frozen fruit below as they fresh and frozen fruit are both as good for you as each other.
7 Raspberries
Handful of Blueberries
2 or 3 Strawberries
Ice (The more ice you put in the more slushy it will be)
Then get an adult to put it in a blender/liquidizer and Whisk it! Mix it! shake it up! and Blitz it! for about 10 seconds or so in the blender.
In a glass you can pour it over some sliced orange or other sliced fruits to give it that “Sangria” feeling.
Remember this adds to your 5-day but not too many of them as they can have a lot of sugar in the liquidized fruit.
½ Pint Semi skimmed milk
3 Spoons of Natural or Greek Yoghurt
8 Strawberries
1 Banana
1/2 cup of ice
1. Remember never use a blender, get an adult to help. Only use a knife with permission and with an adult watching over you!
2. You need a bowl or jug to put your ingredients in to.
3. Measures your milk and yoghurt out and place in your bowl.
4. Peel the banana and place it in your bowl.
5. Pour the milk in to a bowl.
6. Pick the stalks off the strawberries and place in your bowl.
7. Add a ½ cup of ice.
8. Now ask an adult to give it a wizzzzz!
9. Serve in a glass with a straw.
Note .
·This will make enough for 4 glasses of Shake and makes up one of your 5 a day by the NHS guidelines as well as contributes to your dairy products daily intake.
·Don’t forget the waste bits of strawberry are perfect for recycling in a composting bin or wormery.
1 carrot
2 hand fulls of seedless grapes
1 apple
1 ½ cups of apple juice
3 oranges
1/2 cup of ice
Note
· This will make enough for 4 glasses of smoothie and makes up one of your 5 a day.
· Don’t forget the waste bits are perfect for recycling on in a composting bin or wormery but what ever you do don’t give your wiggly worms the orange!!.
